I have a very very green pool..?

Question:We shocked it and put all the chemicals that the pool store told me to use. It started to look better after a few more chemicals they sold me then yesterday we got up and it is very very green again. I know the previous owners of the house put clorox bleach in it so I went to store and bought a 180oz bottle of clorox bleach and with the other 1/2 bottle I had at home and dumped it in pool . oops can someone tell me if under my frustration I put to much and what should I do now. Its been a few hours and it is still very very green. We also added a 1/2 bottle a algecide to it. I also read somewhere that muratic acid would clear up pool but can I add this after all the bleach or how long do I need to wait before tying something else . Please help I'm starting to think the store is selling me increasers just so they can sell me decreasers.

Answers:
Please do not empty your swimming pool if it's a below ground pool. You run a very high risk of your pool “popping” at of the ground (even concrete pools).

Go to the site below and have a look at the pictures for yourself.

You mentioned you read somewhere that muriatic acid would clear up pool. In your case that's exactly what you need to add. If the Clorox bleach you used in your pool is the bleach you use in the laundry stop using it.

Go to the pool shop and buy 15 litre container of swimming pool chlorine and 15 litre container pH Reducer (Hydrochloric Acid) also known as muriatic acid and pH Increaser (Sodium Carbonate) and if you don't have a swimming pool test kit buy one of those as well.

First thing to test for is you have the correct balance of pool chlorine. If you have too much chlorine throw the garden hose in the pool and let it run for a couple of hours.

Now test the acid level. I'm quiet sure you are going to find it’s very low. If you know how many litre's of water your pool holds then you can follow the step by step instructions in you pool test kit and it will work out how many litres of acid to add.

If you are not sure then start off with pouring about three litres of acid into the pool and run the filter for about 6 hours then test the acid level again. If it’s still to low, had 2 more litres of acid, repeat if needed. Don’t worry if you add to much acid it’s very easy to lower that by adding Sodium Carbonate.

After adding the acid it’s going to take at least 24 hours to get the pool looking clear again. When it’s clear back wash your filter.

I think your best bet would be to take all of the water out, clean the pool, fill it up, and use recommended treatments.
with all those chemicals in the pool i would never think of swimming in it. your best bet is to empty it give it a good clean with a pool cleaning agent refill and use only the pool chemicals recommended.
