Hardwood floor installation?
Question:I'm interested in installing hardwood floors in my living room and dining room area (carpet there now). But I'm afraid my dog (85 lb chocolate lab) will scratch them up. Will that happen? Are there alternatives? I've heard of Pergo, but not sure what that is.

Laminate flooring looks a lot like hardwoods and it is exactly that laminated flooring. It is like thick hard plastic all the way through. I have it in my rental place and they had three dogs and lots of mess and the floor still looks as good as new. It is also a lot easier to lay than hardwoods because it "gives" a little. It isn't as stiff.
An 85 lb dog will still scratch pergo flooring. If it were a choice between new floors and the dog, I'd keep the dog.
