How much does it cost to put a fence around a house?
Question:I'm looking at buying a home, and must have a fence. One house I love doesn't have one and I need to know an estimate of the cost of getting one. The entire lot size is 9000 sq ft, so I guess the fence would be about 210 feet long. Thanks!

Are you wanting chain link, wooden privacy, vinyl privacy, vinyl decorative or wrought iron? these are all things you need to consider. I have figured up fencing estimates anywhere from $500 and up. it just depends on what kind you are needing. Also, i would check to see if you can put a fence up before you do it. you'd be surprised how many neighborhoods require permission before doing so and sometimes the city has codes that need checked.
My husband and I have a perimeter around our house of about 480ft. We calculated the cost for our installation (to do it ourself 6' wooden privacy fence) to be about 3,200 including auger/nail gun rental. If you hire someone to install the fence then you can expect that they will charge you the same, plus once over for labor, so about
6,400... if you want a more expensive fence (such as cast iron) it will be more, if you were to install chain link the price would be less.
We measured out our approximate area, and calculated the feet, then went on lowes.com and priced all the material for our particular job. It took about 2 hours (mostly measuring) but it was a pretty accurate gauge.
you'll need 4x4 posts, rails, pickets, and 2 bags of quickrete per post (my brother built fences one summer) You'll also want to get a nail gun and rent an auger to keep from breaking your back digging holes!
OK - ask around 2 diff hardware stores: eg. lowes , home depot w / variety of fencing that will b of u'r liking
& make a decision on $ and style
good luck!
