I live in illlinois what type of fertilzer do i use now?

If it is for flowers or a garden we use Fish Emulsion (spelling?) it smells something horrible but let me tell you it will make your flowers and vegtables grow like crazy. We have used it for the past 4 years and will never use anything else. You can buy it at most nurseries but I have not seen it at most department stores ie..walmart, target, kmart ect.
