I need to know about a 2qt. clear aqua color Mason's Improved canning jar with matching lid, Pat. May 10 1870?
Question:I have several canning jars given to me by my great grandma, most of them are a clear aqua color with lightning clasps, the ones in question were the Lg. 2 qt. jar that says mason's improved on both the jar and the glass lid, the lid also contains a cross on it. The second jar is clear with a lightning clasp, and says Double Safety on the side along with tight on both sides of the top, on the bottom it says SMALLY, KIVLAN, & ONTHANK BOSTON, MASS. I have no clue if any of these are worth anything, and could use any info I can get.
Answers:
your two fruit jars are fairly common. As a rule, aqua or clear jars are worth 10 to 20 dollars, although there are exceptions. The valuable jars are colored glass such as amber, greens, yellows, ect. Go a book store and look them up in Kovels bottle price guide 12th addition or check out there web site.
