Gas Barbecue - What sort of Gas!?
Question:I have been given a secondhand Sterling Barbecue. It is about 10 years old and has been well used. This is the first time I have ever had a Gas Barbecue and I would like to know what gas I buy. It has a blue round valve on a short length of pipe. Any help would be appreciated.
Answers:
Propane.
Ok, just go to a gas station and ask if they fill propane tanks.
A 5 gallon propane tank
Propane are what gas grills use. You can get them at Wal-mart, HEB, or conveint stores. Good luck
Go to somewhere that sells calor / patio gas - they will be able to advise. Lots of large petrol stations do it and they will tell you which one you need. You have to pay a large deposit for the gas container and then you can get it refilled at the same place for a few quid. Have a look at the Calor gas website (link below)- they have a section on BBQ gas.
Hope this helps.
Ok you need propane to start it with sometimes in front of Gas stations.
Go for LPG propane , butane can be used but decreases in performance below 10 degrees Celsius
propane fixed pressure 37mbar regulator 6kg bottle . bottle colour varies
butane fixed pressure 28mbar regulator 6kg . blue colour bottle
NOW BOTTLE SIZE CAN VARY DEPENDS ON BARBECUE OUTPUT . I BASE THE ABOVE ON MINE 6.2KW HEAT OUTPUT
the valve attached to pipe is the regulator ,these can be quite expensive ,the blue colour denotes butane it should have the pressure on it see above, also check the pipe it will have an expire date on it . Now if it is a butane regulator there's no harm using it all you might have to do is use larger bottle size of butane .
Caution ! Some gas grilles use natural gas (LP gas)
Take the grille to a propane company and ask them which orifice yours has.
blue gas bottles u can buy at local petrol station.
