What roof pitch should be used for the efficient flow of water and removal of debris?

Question:We are planning to build a house in tropical rain forest where leaf litter will be heavy, however, we want to catch the runoff water for domestic use.

4-12 pitch would be best, but for catching water,I would use a 3-12 pitch, ,which means 3 inch drop for 12 inch of roof, this should let you gather up water well
