Answers:
I'm a sewing machine tech and can tell you that you may be better off having a new one put in. 10.00 - 20.00 for the part and maybe 15.00 labor. (guessing)
Find any sewing place that services machines and they should be able to get you one. Brewer sewing supplies is a good one. Also PD60 is a good place. In fact I found one, click the link and scroll down. http://www.pd60.net/itemview.php?prtnum=... I think you should be able to call them and order it. It is really pretty simple to put in if you have a small screwdriver. There are so many small parts to put togeather to rebuild in the right order, it is difficult. E-mail me and I'll help more if you like.
Good luck.
Rick

I would get a pro to fix.
That way I know it was done right.

And I would make your son pay for it.
Wheather he's old enough to have a job or not.
I'd make him do all chores around the house.
Do you have your owners manual? If not, try to find a website that has a printable copy. You should be able to figure it out from the manual.
