How do worms end up in the middle of a sidewalk or driveway before they are found dead.?

Question:

Answers:
IT IS DUE TO THE RAIN OR TO MUCH MOISTURE

They come out of the soil when it's over-moisturized and go where there isn't as much moisture, so it would make sense to find them on, say, a sidewalk or driveway.
When it rains the earth worms come up to breath and then are drowned and die. poor little buggers!
i think when i raines they comne out and then they drown. thats what my brother told me. also maybe they are squished more on driveways and sidewalk where cars and people are?
They fall off the McDonalds early morning delivery truck.
I believe when it rains outdoors the water makes the dirt that they live in soakie, so they need to get out of the mud. II'll leave this questions, so I can go and ask my own that just came to my head. Maybe you could answer one of mine.
The rain for the most part but if it hasn't rained in a while then blame the bird like robins on it. They will fight over the worm until the one holding it drops it and then they chase each other away and forget where the worm is and don't come back for it.
first how do they get there...

they are the same as the chicken trying to cross the road...
they just don't make it across the desert of dry stuff

why do they do it?
Excess water forcing them to go for air or drier lands.
Electricity leaking form underground cables.
Desire to just leave an area for better food or living conditions
Simple migration of an over populating species
