How many turns does it take to fully open a 20 lb propane tank?

Question:I managed to break a tank once after the tank was fixed I seem to remember being told that 3 turns was enough. I havn't grilled in awhile and I don't want to bust another tank.

Answers:
Three is plenty. You don't want to open it more anyway, for safety's sake. What if it caught fire? [happened to me once] Would you REALLY want to spend a lot of time turning that **** handle with flames licking at you?
