Fluorescent bulb problem?

Question:Replaced incandescent bulb in lamp with fluorescent. Worked fine for a few weeks, then started flickering and going out. Had to shake bulb or screw out and then back in each time I turned it on in order to make it work. Seemed like the bulb wasn't making proper contact with the bulb receptacle. Same thing happened with different bulb and with different lamp. Any idea on what problem might be?

Answers:
It would seem that its not the bulb but the holder that is at fault. In screw-type holder, prise up the centre contact. In bayonet-type there should be spring-type feeling in the two contacts, if not, replace the fitting. MAKE SURE THAT PLUG IS REMOVED TO PREVENT ELECTROCUTION

unplug lamp from wall, reach in and pry up the bottom contact a bit,
