How to turn on my swamp cooler?
Question:I just moved into an apt with a swamp cooler. How do you turn it on? There are 3 switches on the wall and I have no idea which one is for what...

First be sure that the drain is in place and that the water is turned on and the tank is full...be sure the cut-off float is working and set at the proper level. Make sure all the water outlets are open and flowing freely and that the pump is working and the screen is clean.
make sure the pads are in good shape if there are holes in them have the landlord replace them. also check the fan belt is properly adjusted and isn't about to come appart.
The switches are most likely for the on-off and HI and Lo fan speeds.
If in doubt have the land lord turn it on for you.it isn't hard you just need some time to check and do what is necessary.
all a swamp cooler is is a big old squirrel cage that pulls air through a water fall type hog hair box throw on any switch that starts the blower...ain't no thermostat..if it gets too cold turn it off
