How do I make indoor hardwood steps non-slip?

Question:We have hardwood stairs inside our home. Is there something I could add to the steps to give traction to minimize slipping?

Answers:
There are a couple of things. The first would be a put a rough surface on top of them like carpet or or a stay put rubber-mat.

There are products designed specifically for treating hardwood to make the surface non-slip.

Check with your local Home Depot or Lowes.

it used to be popular to put sand into any varnish product.if you are not varnishing the surface then light abrasion or turpentine (raises the grain)
A cheap fix would but to add a samll amount of sand or grit to some clear coat and "paint" the treads.
