If you disturb a watermelon's vines, will it diminish the number of melons?
Question:I planted some watermelon seeds and the plants are still just small. I always cram my garden with stuff and always end up with rows I can't even walk between, but have a good harvest. I left about a foot of space between them and my zucchini plants. I was going to try to train the watermelon vines to grow out into my yard instead of into the garden where they will take over. My fiance said if I disturb the vines while they are growing and flowering, that I won't get many, if any melons. I need help with this because I promised his little boys we will have watermelons in the garden. I also planted white pumpkin seeds and need to know if I can fence them from growing into my garden, so they will grow into my yard. Thanks!
Answers:
The key to all melons is room and water.
By all means disturb the vine.
Cut all of the "little" flowers and feed the dominate flower.
You can grow them anywhere that a vine will grow.
