Best stand alone/portable air conditioner?
Question:I have a 2 bedroom apartment and don't have central air (only need AC for 2 mos. every year). From your own personal experience, could you please suggest a good stand alone air conditioner?

I lived most my life in Texas but recently relocated to ND almost 2 yrs ago (dont ask why Im still trying to figure out why) anyhow while we were getting our home built we were renters of a house that did not have central air, not many homes up here do have it in fact. And we went out and purchased a Sunpentown Portable Air Conditioner 12000 btu and it worked great on our lower level. When buying an AC unit you need to go by BTU' size.
5,000-5,200 BTUs is suitable for 100-150 square foot rooms
6,000-8,000 BTUs is suitable for 151-350 square foot rooms
10,000-12,000 BTUs is suitable for 351-550 square foot rooms
15,000 BTUs is suitable for 551-700 square foot rooms
18,000 BTUs is suitable for 701-1,000 square foot rooms
24,000 BTUs is suitable for 1,001-1,500 square foot rooms
We did however have to put fans outside of doors if we wanted them to blow some of the cold air into rooms that were not directly in the path of the air output. The one we bought was on sale for like 400 bucks but like I said before it worked great. You can also get window air for MUCH cheaper (in fact you might be able to get 2 or more depending on the sq footage of your rooms for the price of the portable self contained unit). Maybe you should look into them they sit in the windows no big deal and I doubt your apartment complex would have issue with it.
