Locusts??yah, what about them?

Yes, Cicadas. I think they're due around Chicago soon... I hear they taste like chicken :-o
they're called cicadas and they do this because 17 is a prime number and not easily divisable so predator generations have difficulty coinciding with them. they're perfectly harmless to humans but they do make an annoying mating call.
yep...they're called cicadas...they look like big black grasshoppers with evil red eyes...
it is Cicadas and every seven years they shead there shells and leave them on trees in the area, the also make a very loud clicking noise.
They are called cicadas and are annoyingly loud but completely harmless. They can't bite because they can't even eat during the time they are above ground. They are just looking to reproduce. When the male reproduces, he leaves half of himself in the female and dies. She deposits her little ones and they spend their 17 year lifespan underground til they grow up and annoy us again.
This season is expected to be a BIG one, I am told. Taste like chicken? LOL - not so sure about that, but maybe! There are many folk who do fry them up, but I prefer steak when I do eat meat.

Yes, they are known as Cicadas and you may be hearing from them shortly. Their song is loud and quite unique. Best chance of hearing them is in a seldom visited woodland.

They are commonly known as 'seventeen year beetles'.

Hope this helps.
