Name of a purple leaved tree?
Question:I've seen a lot of trees in peoples yards (I live in northern Indiana) that are dark purple or maroon.
They are very large and look like maples or something.
They are not japanese maples.
Answers:
It wouldn't be a red maple. Red maples are green throughout the year, with red leaves in the fall.
It is probably a crimson king maple, although they lose their leaves in the fall like other deciduous trees.
Flowering plums also have maroon leaves, but they don't get real big.
If they are big, and look like maples, they probably are crimson kings. Here's a pic.

It is probably a red maple. Very nice tree that gets wonderful color in the fall.
They could be what my granny called a blue plum. I don't know the correct name.
The first thing that came to mind was a flowering plum. They have the shape of a maple tree but the leaves are quite different and stay maroon all season . They are on the slow growing side so to be large they'd have to be quite mature. They are frequently used at the front of properties where they can be the most visible and decorative.
ok theres alot of tree's that have that flavor ok my guess would be a crimson king maple there not jap.maples they are regulaur maple they stay maroon color and get big very nice tree's or a plum of some sort or it could be forest pansy red bud if its not blood good maple with out seeing it that would be my guess
