When did lead paint stop being produced?

Question:I'm wondering because I've heard different years reported.

Answers:
According to CNN:

"In 1978, the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission)banned the sale of lead-based paints for use in residences, children's toys and household furniture. However, lead-based paint is still on walls and woodwork in many older homes and apartments. Glazes found on ceramics, china and porcelain may contain lead, as well. "

I don't know about the states, but lead paint was produced until about the early fifties in England. When it was discovered it was poisonous, it became illegal to make paint, lead pipes,or leaded petrol. But many old home still have lead in the paint.Especially in my country which is now new zealand. But the paint doesn't do any harm unless ingested or possibly licked. If you are sanding old paint, always wear a filtered mask.I guess the same would apply to some of your old homes. But I suspect the states would have perfected Acrylic paint when it was first used.
