Air conditioning questions?
Question:I have a small window AC unit I just put in for the season. It's pretty good for the room it's in, and I have celing fans going to move air around the rest of the house. Getting another unit is not financially possible at the moment. How can I maximize the effect of the small unit that I do have?
Answers:
Close all the windows and open all the interior doors. Close the drapes and blinds on the sunlit side(s). Turn the control knob to lowest setting when you are out for a few hours or in bed at night. It is cheaper to keep a house cool than to get it cold. Keep the condenser unit on your window box clean. Use a soft brush and clean the condensing coils and evaporating coil monthly.
close the curtains or darken the windows with reflective tint.
best if it is in the shade outside, and well drained.
have it cleaned
If its cool in the evening and early morning hours, make sure you open all the doors and windows to let the COOL air in and shut everything up before it gets warmer.
Close the curtains to keep the sun from adding heat to your room, make sure to pull and rinse the filter when not in use, it makes a big difference on the efficiency of the unit.
