How do you get rid of wood borer?

Question:I made a bench out of red oak and there are borer beetles in the log. I have tried Raid smoke balms with a tent and that just seemed to make them multiply. Does anyone have any suggestions that I may use to get rid of these pests? Thanks, Ed Cimaglio
