contact social services they should be able to help does he get any home care? they can also give you some idea
Yes there is an organisation run by the government called eaga partnerships who install free central heating and insulation there number is 0800 316 2815, also a grant maybe available from your local council for repairs but could take some time, I hope this helps if not they should be able to advise on where you can go.
I know that the organisation Age Concern will lend him a heater to be going on with till his problem is sorted out.
Before taking any major steps towards replacement of that heating system you must first know what is wrong with it.
"packed in" says nothing more than someones' opinion. It may be just a minor repair that could cost very little to take care of.
Even if seeking a charitable assistance organization, they will require a statement from a qualified serviceman before extending funds for replacement or major repair. Otherwise, anyone could be making false claims for a free replacement, right...?
Certainly so could someone in the family afford an inspection report in writing from a qualified serviceman. Also, it is very possible that whom ever supplies the heating fuel will offer a free inspection annually...most do. Most fire departments offer home safety inspections free of cost also and some are qualified to inspect heating systems as well.
Whether the system is using electric, gas or oil, it may not need replacement at all but may just need a new combustion chamber if you have found it sends smoke thru the ductwork.
Regardless, your first step is for a qualified inspection before seeking financial help. Then, check with your city, town or county human resources group for names of local charitable businesses and organizations. Many businesses donate such service for the local needy but do not advertise it.
Good wishes...
Council do grants through their home improvement packages so they will oversee everything on behalf of your father there is also a warm front grant which is government funded if possible go with the council one and does not matter if your owns his own property.
