Why are most homes in the US build with timber instead of bricks?
Question:It worries me that timber is more combustible than brick and cement, yet you continue to see more homes being build with wood everyday across the US
Answers:
most people in the us are cheap and don't want to pay the extra money to a quality brick house.
timber is cheaper, more plentiful, and easier to work with.
It' cheaper.
lumber is cheaper. Bricks don't give when there is an earthquake, so a house built of bricks will crack .
Actually most houses that look like brick houses are the same wood framed houses with a brick veneer instead of other siding. There are not many real brick bearing wall houses built any more in the US. We are used to having standard insulation filled cavities in our standard wood walls. There is some information out there that in certain climates, the thermal mass of thick masonry walls is just as good. It can be done, it takes more labor, and it does cost more money.
