I am getting ready for a Garage Sale. My wife died in 2004 and I have remarried. Today, we worked all day?
Question:getting ready. As most men, I never paid much attention to what my wife bought, therefore I know little about the things left. A question: There is a very nice looking set of dishes that have the word "China" on the back along with other words. Does this mean that the dishes are real "China?" That is, are they somewhat valuable? Thanks for you help. I need to know how to price the set.
Answers:
This just means the dishes were made in China. If they have no other hallmark or maker's mark, they're probably pretty ordinary. If they have a brand name, then you might want to take a representative plate or two to a dealer to let them give you a better idea of their value.
The best china, if held up to a strong light, is slightly translucent. If you can't see through it, it's probably not worth much.
Too bad people don't pay more attention to each other, no?
They are China but they arent worth that much. If you dont have the need for them get rid of them. It would help to know what the pattern China is. Set them all out and put a price on the whole set. I feel like a heel here as I have things of my mother's China that I cant part with but I know its just stuff but it was her's. It's hard to part with something that doesnt mean much in value but its sentimental. I feel for ya.
You may want to contact www.replacements.com & they may be able to help you identify the pattern. If it just says "China" probably just means where they are from. Most Chinaware has the pattern name & year.
Hello Buttermilk. Your dishes are probably not worth much.Even China isn't worth a lot. But to make sure go onto E-bay and check the china section out.And all the best for the sale, and the years ahead. Good Luck!
Checking out Ebay is a good suggestion. You will be able to get some idea on value for your set, and who knows .. it just might be something valuable! You should also adjust your price according to place settings. How many dinner plates, dessert plates, soup bowls, cups and saucers ... do they all match equal?.. and so on. China stamped on the back would probably mean made in China. Do more checking before you put it out at your sale.
