Whats the best way to deal with ants?

Question:Seems like every spring and summer they are back... There aren't too many... but just enough to be very annoying.
SO whats the most effective way to kill those ants and keep them gone?

I am tired of spraying the poison on my counter tops and having to smell it.. what methods do you use?

Answers:
I love a product called Amdro. Any hardware or garden store. It's dry and granular. You sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house on the outside. It's both a bait and a poison. It will first drawn the inside ants back out, then they will carry the grains back to the main colony and wipe the whole thing out.

I had it work for me in just a few days.

Tell your uncles!
Burn the house down. That will get rid of the ants.
i just find the hole they come from and tape it up!
Peppermint Oil soaked into a cotton ball, laid where you see ants, safe for counter tops & smells good.
They avoid it, so if you can find their entryways, place them there & they just will not enter your home at all.
I had ant issue every summer on my brick patio. I bought a bag of cinnamon and spread it on every hill they made and covered the entire area. They were gone for two summers. It is harmelss to the pets, kids and enviroment and for some reason ants hate the smell and leave. Im not sure of they actually die from it but it keeps them away.
I have used just spray. but you can use an exterminator. they just spray around your house and out side to keep them from coming in. I have and its been very effective.
I use Home Defense, but I spray it all around the borders, inside and out, once a year. Haven't had a problem since.

We use to get ants around the floor boards, so I'd soak 'em with window cleaner and wipe them up, using a Swiffer dust mop...sounds silly, but it worked.
The peppermint oil sounds really nice.
You might also try electrostic boric acid (Sells as Roach Prufe) read the lanel and see if it kills trhem
Also if you have a little, non wal-mart, hardware store they should have a ton of things
Salt. Pure and simple. Pour salt (grind size depending on the size of the ant) in a line and the ants won't cross it. Most pets won't bother it either, and it's harmless if a little taste is had. You can even forget after some time and notice that the ants did not forget. No ants. BEWARE: Do not accidentally use sugar.
Inside use ant traps and outside grow some habinaro plants.
get some ant killer powder its called [Nippon] that really works the ant will take the powder to the nest and kill the whole lot of em. by the way you just have to drop a little powder in one corner of your work top .wish you luck
I use poison only outside the house since I'm like you and I don't like the smell and breathing chemicals.
Inside the house, I catch a bunch of them under glasses, as much as I can, then I keep them prisoner for a few hours then I just release them.
If you're patient, they'll stop coming after that bad experience!

Also, I follow them to know what is their route (they make a lot of detours because they're following the scent deposited by others) and where they come from so when it is night and they're gone for the day, I wash their route with water with a little vinegar to erase their scent so they cannot follow that route anymore and I put...don't laugh...vaseline on the hole or crack where they come from. Vaseline does not smell anything and ants cannot cross over it.
As a preventive measure, smear a little vaseline all along the windows and wherever ants can come in.

All that works for me but if it does not work for you, you can do either two things I used to do but I don't need to do anymore:
I used to just vaccum them and after a while, the rest of them would understand how dangerous my kitchen was. The other thing is that I would put a little puddle of something very sugary, like maple syrup mixed with water, next to their entrance point, and that would stop them right there...no need for them to go further since they would have found what they were looking for...
go to your nearest zoo and ask them if you can borrow their ant eaters :)
