How can I tell if my tea set is sterling silver.? It looks antique and has Wm rogers on the bottom.?
Question:
Answers:
It should have the silver bench mark of A1 under the Wm rogers ~~
Sounds antique to me - your Wm Rogers stamp is the real clue.
You could look up the mark as all of these are registered.
If the service is Sterling silver it will carry the assay mark which should show the letters SS or if it shows EPNS it is electroplated Nickle Silver
If you go to your local library you can find books on the type of assay marks which will tell you when it was made
Typically it'll also say silverplate or sterling?
If there is a number 92 that is the silver content and 8 is the nickel content. 92 is sterling silver.
Those are from the rogers and rogers company and most of thiers is plated..I've seen plenty, but not saying they don't have sterling
