Food left out attracts any bugs. The flying ant you are spaeaking of is the queen ant(female). She is searching for food to alert the colony. They get in every time a door or window is open, or leaks in your home. Windows & doors not sealed propely.
You don't have to spend a lot of money to get rid of ants...Get on the search engine & type in home made bug repellent. There are so many recipes to kill & repell ants, etc. Good luck & God bless.
Your house is not completely sealed and since they can fly it is not hard for them to find those cracks.
