How much power do 12 volt systems that replace 240 volt systems use in comparison?
Question:Mains circuits in Oz are 240 volts. I've just replaced my 240v downlights with 12 volt lights.
Assuming the same wattage, I'm interested in learning whether my power bill (at least for the lights) is likely to be unaffected by this, or if it will reduce (and the approx % - is it a linear relationship?)
I realise that wattages for the two systems are not the same, but I'm interested in understanding the $ impact (if anything) -everything else being equal.

Answers:
The 12 volt DC down lights are still being powered by 240 V AC wiring in your house. If the wattage of the 12V lights are the same as the 240V lights, then there really won't be much difference in your power bill.
The DC power is converted from the AC power. Power is voltage x amps. So 60 watts of power from 240 volts needs .25 amps. 60 watts at 12 volts needs 5 amps. It's the wattage that you need to compare.
Kilowatt Hours...Power formula is Power (watts) = Volts x Amps. Low voltage that draws the same current is more efficient.
DOUD WHAT R U TOCKING ABOUT?
12V CAN NOT REPLACE 240V OR 240 CANT REPLACE 12V..
BUT IF U LOOKING TO MACK YOUR BILLS CHEEPER USE FLUSCET LIGHT OR TUB LIGHT THERE LOT CHEPER TO RUN.AN THAY LAST A LONG TIME
