What's a plant that could grow just with water and sea shells?
Question:I have this funky idea. I want to fill a tall glass jar with salt water sea shells and water. Then I want to stick a plant in it. I thought it would be a nice way to decorate my apartment. I wonder if the sea shells will somehow hurt the plant. I also wonder if there's a plant with roots that won't get tangled with the shells.

My step-mom had a big vase with pretty rocks in it, a Betta fish and a really pretty peace lily in it. She just cut a timy hole in the plastic that held the plant up to feed the fish. It was really pretty, and I bet you could use shells rather than the rocks. You could probably do just the lily and the vase of water and shells too-that would be really pretty.
sea weed
I don't know...but something that naturally grows in salt water...otherwise the salt will dehydrate it and it will dye. But it also needs to be something that can get its nutrients from the water since it will not have any soil to do so.
I don't think you need to worry about the shells hurting the plants... what about the salt water!!
Kelp, algae, that sort of thing.
Ever thought about using just the shells and getting some air plants (the live off air!!) no soil, water, or food required..
Kelp?
The peace lily or prayer plant can be grown in water with the shells. You are just using plain water ?Then just take the plant and wash all dirt from the roots and find something to allow it sit on the top of the vase.It should look really nice..
Ivy or bamboo will work, be sure to rinse the shells, you cant do too much about the roots.
