Beetle problems, can you help?

Question:In the past month we have found about 7/8 reddish brown beetles in our house, luckily the cats kill them before I see them! Could I have an infestation of them somewhere? and what are they likely to be? I'm living in Hampshire, UK.
They are around 1/4 to 1/2 inch long with short legs and elongated oval shaped. There backs are shiny and rounded. If anyone knows anything or any websites I could contact that may be of help I'd be most grateful - Thank you
