How do you bring a patch of dead grass back to life?
Question:My !@#$% husband set the hot BBQ lid on the grass, and now we have a perfectly round patch of dead grass. Brilliant. Do you have any tips on bringing it back to life?
Answers:
St Augustine grass ? Rye grass ? each is different
If St Augustine, Rake out the old. Water Daily for about 2 weeks The healthy grass around it will eventually fill it in or you can add SOD Plugs .
Rye Grass , Bermuda Grass----
You will need to rake out the old and apply new seed and fertilizer. Water as directed.
new grass seed fer krissakes!!
plant new grass. we had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. we planted new grass and now, it doesnt even look like there was a bald spot of grass! in the summer, grass grows really fast! so plant the grass soon!
Rake away all the dead grass and start over with new grass seed. The patch kits work well. It will take time so be patient.
You didn't mention what type of grass. If it's a creeping grass such as bermuda, just wait.
The dead may not be totally dead, the top might have been scorched, but the growth crown is still alive. Water and give it a week to see if something pops up. If not, buy some sod, have the Brain Child dig out the old dead stuff and resod the area. Or you could reseed and wait weeks for it to fill back in.
cut round it then buy a piece of turf and lay that instead.
