How do I spray for bugs in my basement?

Question:We are trying to make our basement into a more liveable space, and we would like to spray to make sure there's few/no bugs. But what do we use? How do we do it? We have carpeting that we are afraid to spray near... (or would it be fine?) we have a big bottle of Ortho Home Defense Perimeter & Indoor Insect Killer (the kind that has the yellow nozzle and hose) that we used outside, can we spray that at the baseboards? Or what?? After spraying, how long do we wait before we can hang out down there? I'm so lost... any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ortho is 2nd rate,... not bad but you can get better.

There are several products that you can spray over the carpet. Cy-Kick CS is the most effective and its based off of a chrysanthemum flower, making its toxicity level at only a caution label. (that's low). But if you use it as a base board spray you shouldn't have to spray the entire carpet. You can also inject Borid Turbo into the walls by unscrewing your outlet face plates.

I use foggers ever 6 months and I have no problem with any bug. Just do as it says on the can. I have tried sprays they never have worked as good as foggers. You will have to leave for a few hours but hey good time to go visit, or go shopping.
Good luck hope this helps.
Ortho products are great. I've used that one too. Ortho products are safe around animals. You have to wait for them to dry before re-entering the area. It can be used on the rugs too. I have sprayed the rugs all the way across the room. I have gotten it on the baseboards too. I usually wait for at least 2 hours before entering the room. I also air it out AFTER the 2 hours. Before that I close it up tight. This way the fumes stay in the air and hopefully kill other things off too. But after 2 hours I usually go around and check for wet spots. If you have tables or eating areas you may wanna wash them off. I also learned about boric acid. You can get big bottles of it in the pest section of the stores. It is something like 32 oz for around $4. You pour a line of it along the baseboards and when the bugs cross it the powder rises up like a dust storm in their faces. It then goes into their breathing and chokes them within 2 hours. It's safe for humans, pets, and even around babies. You have to accumulate like maybe around 8 oz. of it for it to become poisonous. I always use it. You can pour it right on the rugs too. Like for fleas or whatever. It kills spiders, ants, silverfish, centipedes, earwigs.name it. Extremely cheap. A bottle lasts maybe all year. You only need a line of it. If they cross the line they are dead. You can use it on windowsills too. Great stuff. good luck.
The best thing to do is buy a few bug bombs.
A fogger can in each room will kill everything, in just a couple of hours. No smell, no residue, perfect!
