Natural or Non-Toxic bug spray or repellant.?
Question:Does anyone know of a natural, non-toxic bug repellent/spray that works for roaches(indoors and out) and outdoor pest like mosquitos and gnats. We have kids, so we would rather not use chemicals if possible. Serious replies only please.
Answers:
Boric acid works for most insects that crawls. You can get them at drugstores.
Planting citronella plants and making sure you don't have standing water around will keep mosquitoes and gnats away.
you can also use skin so soft by Avon for kids if you need to spray them. It's very mild and it works. Giving them B vitamins also helps . Mosquitoes doesn't like the scent humans release when they have B vitamins in the system.
I would go with natural, beacusue it doen't harm the environment or your children. If your kids are very little, then you should definatly use natural, but if you have a bit older kids, then I would only use the other kind if they don't breathe too much of it. The natural may have to be applied a few more times because it is weaker, but you still get good results.
boric acid will work well for the roach problem and as for the mosquitos try avons skin so soft it really works well
boric acid powder works well (ie. Borax found in laundry aisle)
they sell a non-toxic insecticide with a base of soap that repels and kills most insects at most big box stores.
there are also many web sites out there that have recipes that you can make at home, just google homemade insecticides organic. but the best thing that you can do is to make the home less attractive to the pests. keep mulch
away from the home at least a foot or better yet use decorative stone or cedar mulch, make sure that there are no containers with water in them that may promote the breeding
of mosquitoes. keeping the kitchen area neat and clean will reduce the incidence of roaches, they won't stay/live if there is nothing to feed on. become more knowledgeable about the insect world mainly ones around your area. the more you know about them the better it will be for you to control them naturally. good luck.
