$500,000+ depends on the quality of the building materal and fixtures.
We built a 28,000 sq ft home in Wisconsin . Doing all the work ourselves ( I am blessed with a very handy husband) it cost us $63,500. Home values are MUCH lower here than California but our fair market value is a little above the average home for our area. If we were to have a contractor build for us the cost would have been about $200,000. I guess it depends on weather you are going to do any of the work yourself.
