How do I know if it what I saw was a cockroach?
Question:I saw a big black bug, this big =============! all black oval shaped with tentacles. I saw the same one on my porch. I was told it wasn;t because when I turned the light on he just stood there, they said they would move so fast you would hardly see it. I need to know b/c I will move if it is? It wasn't that fast. could it be a beetle? I don't have a dirty apartment. a little messy, but definitely not dirty.

All of these are just plain icky, although the cockroach in the 3rd pic looks more aerodynamic, making pic #1 look like a tank!

if it comes after you, then it is a cockroach, that's why most girls are panicking when they saw 1.

It is probably a cockroach. No big deal. If the landlord doesn't have a monthly exterminator spray, then I would suggest you do it yourself. No need to move! Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. sell bug spray in gallon jugs, with a sprayer attached. Usually around $10. Go get one of those and a nose mask or handkerchief tied around your face (like the old time bandits!) and spray all the baseboards in every room. Especially along cupboards& exterior door frames.
Sometimes when roaches have crept through poison they are kinda stunned before they die--that may have been why the one on your porch was slow.
Roaches are not necessarily indicative of the dirtiness/cleanliness of your apartment. Roaches can enter in any box or paper bag, (I mean roach eggs here).
Also spray the perimeter of the porch. Quick control is best, don't let time pass as they reproduce plenty.
Again, no need to move, you risk moving into something more infested, or possibly taking the infestation with you.

Cockroaches are everywhere and it has nothing to do with a dirty house. Call your landlord and have him exterminate the bldg. Spraying just one apartment won't help as they are coming from the other apts. in your bldg.
