Whats Best UPVC Front Door Or Solid Wood?

Question:Hi i have just bought my own home and need to replace the front door. The house has dark brown UPVC windows, but a wooden front door, which im replacing because its wrecked. I am on a budget and have noticed that a decent looking UPVC is a lot more than a solid wood one.

I'm wondering about security benefits. The guy at the 'wood' door shop (of course) said wood is best, as its hard to 'kick in' but i know the UPVC lock into the frame so appear secure.

Does anyone have an opinion on what is best. I'm very unsure, i like the look of the wood doors, but this wont sway me as the security benefits are very important.

Thanks in advance!!

Kate

You can get Solid wood doors with the same locking system as a upvc, so best of both worlds

Few things devalue a house as much as UPVC and the front door is a pretty important feature. I got one and wish I'd got a wooden one. Plastic soon looks tatty and you cant put a letter box/bell/knocker/security chain on it. A hardwood door is easily as strong and you can paint it when you fancy a change. Wood is beautiful, go for wood.
Hi, solid wood, just make sure its a hardwood one. UPVC has a tendency to drop after a while, and you spend the next few yrs with it grating on the bottom.
I think it was the "House Doctor" BBC TV who said that a wooden door was best. UPVC doors reduce the value of the house.
