Propper ting, the missis has one she uses aprox.once a year but -lol - her mother used one almost every day.

they usually offer free classes
if you buy from them
Singer and brother are very good brands. It is very good that you want to move into this fascinating hobby. Ask a family member who sews to teach you the finer points of this craft. And you can find some cool tips online. And don't give up, even if you prick your fingers like crazy. Practice makes better. (no such thing as perfection) If you practice enough, you could start a little buisiness, then teach your kids to sew, and pass the buissiness onto them, and over the generations, that little buissiness will grow and grow, possibly becoming the next GAP! Good Luck!
You might want to buy an inexpensive machine off of ebay or at your local thrift shop, at least until you find out if this is your true calling or just a whim. If you can learn on a simple machine you will understand the basics and can then tackle the expensive computerized versions.
I tell you what, when you start making yourself clothes and accessories for the house for $5, you'll see how good your investment was!
