I put Round up grass-weed killer inside of my landscape garden, but it's killing grass outside of the garden?

Question:I have landscaping rocks which circle around the garden that we have with flowers/shrubs here in Milwaukee, WI. I put Round Up on the weeds and grass inside of the garden, but now the problem is that the Round Up is killing some of the lawn next to the landscaping rocks. What should I do now since the grass is turning a bit yellow outside all around the rocks which affected the lawn that is growing next to the rocks externally?

Answers:
Round up is a great product but you gotta be kind of careful when using. It is basically a topical herbicide and affects only living tissue that it comes in direct contact with. There obviously was a bit of a wind when you sprayed the grass inside your garden, and the product drifted to the outside. I would pull the yellowing grass and re-seed the area where you want grass to grow. Once Round up hits the soil, it becomes inert after a day or two so you can plant in a few days and it should be ok. good luck. To avoid this in the future, use a piece of cardboard to block any product over spray.

Sounds like over-spray. Flush it with plenty of clear water, add some baking soda to a big picture of water(about a tablespoon) and pour over the area that you don't want dieing.Than flush again with clear water. That neutralises the round -up. But be sure to flush it again with the clear water. Bye
It must have blown a little in the wind while you were spraying?

I don't believe there's much you can do. By the time the yellowing starts this systemic killer has already infiltrated the plant. General Round Up kills everything. Round Up Weed Killer should spare ordinary grass. Perhaps you have crabgrass or another less desirable type grass?

Anyway, you can reseed within 3 weeks and the new grass should take. After all the weeds come back!
Yes Round UP will do that. The reason I found is that the round up not only kills where you put it But it seeps into the ground attacking the "roots" of areas outside the perimeter you want to get rid of. There by killing off areas of grass etc up to several feet away.
Not much you can do now sounds like you either oversprayed-which is easy to do or used to much witht he area and with water added ran into your surround. Worst case you may have to dig up the area around it and add fresh soil or water the soild down to get rid of the poison in the ground and reseed.
I think this was caused by either drift when you sprayed the rocks or it was just run off from the rocks and it landed on the grass. Round up does not affect the soil only the foliage of the plants it lands on, although, it will weaken root systems if applied directly onto them.. Did you apply anything else to that area recently? How much did you spray or did you apply it in a different manner? Totally agree with watering thoroughly to flush as much away, but the baking soda idea doesn't make sense. Apply some lawn fertilizer, slow release works best, to head off the effects of the round up. This should green up the grass, but I would apply it to the whole lawn so it doesn' t have one spot greener than the rest. Hope this helps.
Definitely over spray. Someone suggested using cardboard to block areas you do not want to get a chemical in. That is a great tip.

Depending on the type of grass you have it may spread back into the areas that are dieing.
It's how you applied the Round-up... If you sprayed it on residual spray would go onto the outside part of your garden. the best way to use Roundup is by using a small amount on a sm paintbush and you carefully put it on the weed you want to kill. Painting Roundup is the safest way to use it.

good luck in future
