Why my refrigerator is warm and the freezer is still freezing?

Question:It is a Frigidaire refrigerator I bought four years ago brand new from Sears with a one year warranty

Answers:
The refrigerator/freezer combos use one refrigeration system for both the freezer and the refrigerator. Since the freezer has to be much colder, the unit is designed to make the freezer very cold, robbing the cold air from the freezer to cool the refrigerator by allowing air to flow from the freezer compartment to the refrigerator compartment by using an air-circulating fan.

The temperature for the freezer is controlled by setting the main thermostat. The refrigerator temperature is controlled by an airflow control regulating how much air is allowed to flow to the refrigerator from the freezer.

Sometimes, if the refrigeration system fails for one reason or another, the freezer is "the last one to know." Check the temperature of the freezer with a thermometer. It should be around zero degrees. Water freezes at 32 degrees, so just because the ice may still be frozen is not enough for you to know the freezer is performing "up to snuff".

If the freezer is as cold as it should be, there is a problem with airflow from the freezer to the refrigerator. Check for air vents blocked by food packages, ice, etc., in the freezer compartment, or the refrigerator compartment.

If the freezer is not as cold as it should be, there is your problem.

You need to write guiness that is the longest a frigidaire has run without problems since the buy out!
sounds like ice build up in top or blower motor is bad
ice a lot of times will make a clicking sound when fan blades hit ice

txu,,I didn't think,,you may be right
Could be faulty. There may be duel controls so check settings. 4 years is not to old for it to still work as it should.
Check the temperature controls. They are usually inside of the refrigerator door. The fridge and freezer temps are controlled individually so the temp for the fridge may have been bumped.

My kids have done this before.

On newer models that have an ice and water dispenser on the outside, the controls are sometimes on the outside.
I had this same problem with the fridge in my apartment. The problem turned out to be some solenoid that shut the compressor on and off, was broken. Mine was fixed for free because I rent, but I don't imagine that the part would cost a great deal. Just call an appliance repair service. They could tell you better than I can.
If the fridge produces ice, on the other side, he has to get rid of the heat on the surface..
Please Note: The word refrigerator as it's being used here refers to the appliance as a whole, not just one of the compartments.

Frigidaire brand refrigerators, like most refrigerators, have only one compressor and share the air with the frozen food compartment and the fresh food compartment. There is most likely nothing wrong with the compressor itself since your frozen food compartment still works.

Most Frigidaire refrigerators have at least one thermostat in each compartment and a control for each compartment, but some do not. It will depend on which model you have.

The first thing to do is check each compartment to see if they both have a separate control. If they have separate controls make sure the fresh food compartment control is set properly.

Some models from Frigidaire actually allow you to set a temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius, but most models only allow you to choose a numerical value between 1 or 9. One side should be labeled Colder, usually the higher number is colder but check the control or your manual.

There is at least one baffle between the frozen food compartment and the fresh food compartment. That baffle will open or close to keep the fresh food compartment within a certain tolerance of the temperature you have selected if the thermostat is working properly and if the baffle is working properly.

Make sure your frozen food compartment and fresh food compartment is loaded in a way that allows the air to travel freely from one compartment to the other. Consult the manual if you are not certain where the baffles are and how the air flows from one compartment to the other.

Some other things you can do to make sure your refrigerator is as efficient as possible:

01) Clean behind the refrigerator if there are coils behind it and clean under the refrigerator if there are no coils behind it at least once a year but ideally every three months. Many refrigerators claim there is no longer a need to do this and that may be true depending on the design of the compressor. Consult your manual for proper cleaning technique.

02) Keep the frozen food compartment packed relatively well but keep the fresh food compartment packed in a way that allows air flow. Do not keep a mostly empty refrigerator: Make sure there is food in both compartments. The foods and liquids you keep in your refrigerator have thermal mass. The compressor will be activated more often to keep each compartment the proper temperature if you have little or no food in your refrigerator.

03) If you wish to save more electricity you may insulate your refrigerator as long as you do so in a way that allows your refrigerator to draw in and expel air.

If you cannot find your manual you can look inside your refrigerator for a decal that will have the model number and serial number and then use that information to find the right manual from http://www.frigidaire.com. The information may be in the frozen food compartment or the fresh food compartment depending on the model.

I hope you figure out what's going on and that this information was helpful!
