We have white flakes coming through all of our faucets. What are they and how do we get rid of them?

Question:Someone told us it could be our water heater; also that it could be calcium? We do live in town and our neighbors do not have this problem. We have lived in our house for almost two years and I am tired of using ice trays ( we turned off the water to the fridge b/c it kept clogging the filter). Help!

Answers:
If the pieces float then it is the dip tube from the water heater, if they sink then it is minerals.
It can effect the ice maker because sometimes the ice maker line is tied to the hot water line.
The dip tube shoots the cold water to the bottom of the heater, it get hot and then rises.
They had a recall on all the major brands of water heaters because of dip tube failure. the dip tube would break off and little pieces of it would float up into the water system. There is one company that supplies all the water heater CO. with dip tubes.
If it is the dip tube - just change the heater. Some people will tell you that you can just change the tube, but what happens is that the old tube that is now sitting at the bottom of your heater continues to fall apart and cause trouble.
I hope that is not it. and I hope I helped

its electrolisis...maybe. The water heater connections may be copper to galvanized with out the proper bushings...maybe
try having the dip tube in your water heater changed...
