Moving out help! Rent or buy?
Question:I need a dolly for moving out... like the utility dolly from UHaul. The thing is I need it for 3 days which would cost me 21$$ if i rent from U HAUL.
There's one i saw online at homedepot.com called the
Gleason
Light Weight Nylon/Poly Hand Truck
http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/hdus/en_...
Is this similar to the one provided by UHaul - I'm confused whether i should rent for 21$ or buy one 40$ ??
Answers:
You should definitly rent one. Here's why: If you buy one, you need to store it. Its going to be sitting around your new place collecting dust and taking up room.
Also, its MUCH cheaper to rent. Almost 50% cheaper and then you're done with it! Even if you move again within a year and you need to rent another one, its no biggie.
And yes, the dollys that UHaul rent are very sturdy. The one you buy from Home Depot will be "Light Weight" and may easily break. Think if you're trying to move a dresser or a full cabinet, the "Light Weight" could easily bend or even snap.
Rent it for your 3 days, bring it back and be done with it. Dolly's are not generally "good investments" - I don't think you'll get to point where you say to yourself, "Wow, this thing paid for itself" :-) It'll be more of a PITA than anything, just taking up space.
Have fun moving!
.
Depends on your future needs. Will you need it again in the future? Will you be using it frequently that you should own one? Or if you purchased it, would it lay away someplace until dooms day. Also have you done a price check on line to see other avenues and costs. Do you have someone that you can borrow one from.? Save both money and time.
Buy one for $40 and after you're done with it sell it for $30 on craigslist.org
the one at u haul is a heavey duty . the one at home depot is very light if you are moveing any thing heavey (fridg. washer ect. ) lite one is NO GOOD . If you think you will use one more than once buy one a good one . if not just rent .
