How do we prevent mosquitos?
Question:How do we get a Bratz book for freeeeeeeeeeeee!
Answers:
Not sure what the Bratz book is, but if you want to get rid of mosquito's then try attracting predators. Two of the best are swallows and bats.
You can attract swallows early in the spring, or even as late as early-mid summer, by putting up bird houses. Swallows like to have a house that has an oval shaped hole no larger than 1.5 inches high and 1.75 inches wide. The box can be assembled in any fashion but usually a 6 inch wide by 12 inches tall by 8 inches deep box is prefered. Rough up the outside of the box below the entrance hole and don't put a perch on the outside as this only serves to attract sparrows and various other species. Place the nest box in a location that gets full to partial sun and set the box so that it's about 5 feet from the ground for best results.
To attract bats you will need to either purchase a bat house or construct one on your own. They are relatively easy to construct but the plans out on the internet are difficult to find. Purchase a bat house that is capable of holding at least 100 bats as they are colony animals and prefer to be surrounded by others of their kind. Place the box well away from roads and trees. Set it on a poll that puts the box at least 10 feet in the air or mount it on the side of your house under the eaves if you wish. If there are any bats in your area they will investigate it and eventually move in to it. They can take as long as 3 years to colonize a new house or as little as two weeks.
Get rid of any standing water on your property as mosquito larvae require still water to thrive.
Eliminate standing water in your yard, with the exception of birdbaths, which should be kept clean and filled.
Use mosquito plants around doors. Plant marigolds close to doors.
Some folks advocate placing a laundry softener sheet on the screen doors of your home. I haven't tried this.
A great natural way to keep mosquitos away is to plant lavendar in areas you spend outdoors or near your doorways. They hate the smell, and stay away.
