How do you make a drainage soakaway, for a garden?

Question:how deep does it have to be, and what do i fill it up with for it to work best, thanks

Answers:
I have to do that to my garden too. So many different opionions of what i should do though. The one I'm going to do is dig a 2ft deep trench along the lower end of the garden, put some sand in the bottom and gravel on top and a few inches of soil at the top to keep the grass growing on it

we had to put drainage in our lawn last year. The landscapers dug four diagonal trenches and filled them with sand and gravel. we also had the lawn levelled. It has made a huge difference.
i suggest digging a trench 2 to 3 feet deep and fill with pea shingle and about 4 inches of topsoil if u want grass or deck over the area if it is feasable
