Should children's bedroom doors be closed at night?

Question:I remember being told as a kid that it was a fire safety issue and that we couldn't leave our doors open in case of fire.

Answers:
CLOSED... those who say that "Fire alarms" will protect them are WRONG... the alarm may sound as their room is filling with smoke and gasses that render them unconscious... so that alarm is now useless!!

Our neighbors house caught fire on the first floor... and by the time them alarms went off, the house was filling with smoke. By the time they had woken and gathered for escape, the stairway was blocked !! They retreated to a bedroom, closed the door and escaped onto the room and to the ground. IF their doors had been open, they would all have been unconscious and then DEAD.

yes - the reason is to stop the spread of fire. if the door is closed the fire has to burn thru the door before entering the room.
Yes, that is right, but in our house we leave them slightly open, but as far as the fire issue goes, that is right.
I leave mine kids doors open, we have muiltiple Fire Alarms(I think everyone should) What if your child gets sick the night or needs you?
Fire can come in too.
So, its better to leave it open cause if the child wakes up , he/she will be scared.
this is true
i leave my daughters door slightly ajar
yes
everyone im sure is different, so im sure thats why your asking. Ok, yes sure for fire safety, but many other safety reasons to leave open. You need to hear your child if they need you; bad dream, not feel weell, scared, hears something in house, outside of house. Also you can monitor them with door open. Gives you the peae of peaking through as you walk by knowing theyre in there, there are weirdos in all parts of the world, good neighborhoods or not it happens, with a door opene I feel more confident I could hear, or see. ALso when they get older they know mom/dad can see what goes on in that room, & hear, a phonecall, friends in the room, no one sneaking in & out. In our family we keep them open. If guests over, I close part way to keep sound out when kids sleeping, otherwise open. I think the fire issue true in the 1 way of taking longer to travel, but in todays day of age & all the fire alarms--with new batteries in them, theyre safe with doors open. whew that was long winded!
