Does anyone have a "recipe" for a natural stump and rook killer? Trying to kill the remains of Juniper roots?
Question:I would prefer to try something natural before going to the commercially made chemicals? If there isn't a natural way to do this, what is the best commercial product? This Juniper root has been growing for 15 years or more and can't be dug out because of underground wiring.
Answers:
Junipers have an extensive lateral and deep root structure. Since mechanical methods for removal of junipers by grubbing, bulldozing, root plowing, or using chains is not available to you because of the wires, chemicals may be your only option.
Using chemicals to control juniper is best done to seedling/sapling plants. Current chemicals that prove effective are: Velpar L at ground level and 1% Tordon 22K leaf spray. Velpar is nonspecific and therefore will affect other plants so it must be handled with caution. There is no effective broadcast herbicide available as yet.
Infecting them with Juniper Phytophthora Root Rot causes the Feeder roots become brown and wet rotted. They eventually dry out and the shrub dies.
Two things.Woody Weedkiller. Drill holes in the root, and put Weedkiller in. Secondly in this country-NZ, they pour diesel oil in. Does the same, kills roots. Good Luck!
