Ants hate cinnamon - sprinkle a little on the counter where you see them enter
Theres a powder called seven dust. It is not harmless but alot less harmless than ant killer. We use it because my 2-year old grandson is always outside playing.

If they are inside youy can sprinkle Comet along their trails. They won't cross it and the chlorine does something to their nervous system. For outside problems try diazanon; available as a concentrate or pre-diluted.
