Items from IKEA?

Question:My husband and I went to IKEA yesterday to get some ideas. We found A LOT of things we want and I was wondering if anyone has any furniture from IKEA? What do you have? Do you love it or hate it? What do you like or dislike about it?

We are thinking about using IKEA for our kitchen re-do as well as a family room and bedroom.

Oh...and how are the dishes and pots and pans?

Thanks for any info!!

We have purchased lots of items from IKEA. We re-did our entire kitchen ourselves and put in Ikea cabinets and a sink. We love the cabinets. We have some other furniture from them - generally, their wood products are great, but the upholstered items are inferior quality. They are cheap - but they don't hold up. We have a twin mattress for our guest room, as well as 2 comforters - which are all great. In general, if it looks/feels cheaply made, don't buy it. It isn't worth the price. If you are just starting out, it's a great place to furnish your house and kitchen!

We don't have dishes - we do have some other kitchen items, which are great. Their wire shelving units are versatile and a great price.

The worst problem we had was when we got all of our kitchen cabinets, we were short a couple of doors. They style we had was back-ordered, and it took us 6 months to finally get the missing doors. We chose the eucalyptus finish - don't remember their name for it, but it's a dark wood veneer.

My wife and I have been very happy with everything we have purchased from IKEA.
The pots and pans are great. I have a set of pots (I think they're called Kavalkad). They've never rusted, and they cook evenly.

I also have an open-concept bookcase called an Expedit, which has 16 holes in it for anything you can imagine. I used to store books in there, but as I'm moving to a smallish place soon, I decided to put my CDs, VHS, and DVDs into boxes (those stationery boxes with the hatbox designs, to be precise) and use it that way. You can also get baskets for your Expedit, to store magazines or stray children's toys.

I have one of the pendant lamps, which I hung in the dark area above my kitchen sink. I bought a couple of hooks from a hardware store, which screw into the ceiling. And I tied a loose knot in the cord of the lamp, then hung it up from one of the hooks. At first I was a little shocked that there wasn't a chain or anything to hang the lamp by, but now I think it's cute and kitsch, the way I hung it up.

And I have two Leksvik coat racks, which I'm using as shelving in a bedroom. From the hooks I'm hanging not coats, but purses.

You don't have to use IKEA's furniture items only as shown in the catalogue- you can make your own use up for them. One of the reasons I love the store.

I only wish it wasn't so far away from where I live.
