Tree is having problems need help figuring out what is wrong?
Question:The leaves have holes in them. It's that way on the entire tree. Dripping alot of sap and has soft squishable bumpy black stuff on the bark. What is causing this?? I don't see bugs, beetles or anything like that. It doesn't look like it's dying, it's just getting worse and dripping alot of sap which it didn't do before. It's at least 6 yrs. old and I'm guessing at least 20+ feet tall. It's an elm tree.
Answers:
It may be afflicted with Dutch Elm or some other tree disease. You could call in an arborist to evaluate it for you.
Its unfortunate that this tree is ill. It does present an opportunity to observe the various stage a tree goes through as it dies. It will host various insects and birds in the mean time. Kind of cool to watch a tree die and maybe see something nest in its cavities before it goes down.
It may be Dutch Elm Disease. I not sure.
I got a link, but, it really not sound like what you describe.

Your tree has got an incurable tree disease peculiar to Elm trees called-Dutch Elm Disease.Your tree regretfully will have to be removed. Hope fully there aren't any other trees(Elm) nearby? Your local council or authority will need to know,as this disease can spread. I think from memory, by spores wind carried.
