The Ortho company makes a couple of products that may help. First is the Home Defense product, spray it around your doorways and windows to keep the ants out of the house. Second Ant-Be-Gone is a white powder that you can sprinkle along the paths of the ants that will kill them. However, Ant-Be-Gone is not a perminant solution; it will work for a time, but inevitably they come back. If you can find the ant hill, I would recommend AMDRO ant killer. I've had great success with that.
Ants are outside? Use diazanon or a diazanon replacement type granule with a hand spreader and sprinkle your yard especially around the base of the house. The replacement type will need to be watered in to release the poison into the ground. Lasts about a month or two. Then, repeat. Home Depot or Lowe's around $6-8 a bag from Ortho. Inside, make sure you pick up all food and drink, keep countertops and floors clean. They come in looking for food, water, and escape from the heat. Buy a suitable water based Ortho liquid spray poison(not Raid because it stinks and is greasy) and spray under cabinets, floorboards, window sills, etc. This will kill the inside ones and deter new ones from coming in for a month or two. Follow directions! Repeat as needed.
Ants are hard to kill. Local killers don't really get the colony. I have found that Diazanon granules work best - but it is toxic! Has to be to kill the ants, though. Sprinkle the granules (outdoors only!) where you have seen ants in some numbers. They will carry the granules home. Keep kids and pets away.
You need to kill the colony(s) or it will be a recurring problem. There are several poisoned bait products like Amdro that the ants take back to the colony and feed it to the queen and other workers. The colony(s) will be dead within a week and your problem will be gone for the summer. Be sure to sprinkle the bait around your foundation (all of it) in the evening and when it is expected to be dry overnight. Sunshine and water will neutralize the poison.
you need a bait. amdro has worked for me.
Bury coke bottles, the ants will fall in but cant get out.Probably have to put something in it to attract them. Hey I know coke.

NOTHING works like this stuff. The ants go bonkers. They will even post guard ants around the stuff to keep other ants away. I've used it and have never seen anything like it. They bring it back to the Queen and feed it to her! Voila! Nest gone.
