How do you connect a rain barrel?
Question:The barrel isn't directly under the downspout. Is there a piece we can buy to connect from the downspout over to the rain barrel? Where do you go to buy it? Remember, the less work involved the better!
Answers:
Your local home center should have round accordion-like downspout tubing with rectangular connections on each end to connect to the downspout to the rain barrel.
Cut the downspout high enough that the flexible tubing slopes down hill. You don't want to have the tube lower than the top of the barrel, that will cause back flow. The general rule, I believe, is 2" down slope for every foot of run. So if your barrel is 2 feet from the gutter down spout, the downspout should be cut 4" above the height of the barrel plus the diameter of the tubing.
Use short sheet metal screws to screw the flexible hose to the end of the gutter. Put the other end of the tube into the top of your barrel and you're set.

Go to a hardware store and buy another piece of downspout. You will probably have to get an elbow too. (a curved piece). They just fit into each other. No glue, etc.
