I use a straight razor blade for thick stains, and then I use a scouring scrub make for cooktops fronm wal-mart to scrub it, finish it with a hot soapy water wash and rinse

They make glass top stove cleaner & I use that with a no-scratch scrubber & I regularly use a razor blade to scrape off the "stains" you mention.
